After commodities boom, poverty remains in Argentina by Gonzalo Vega

After 12 years ruling the country with the benefit of soaring prices of commodities , the Kirchner era comes to an end leaving Argentina economy in bad shape, a complete shortage of foreign currency and a long list of unresolved problems that compromise the future. Although supporters of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner highlight her social welfare achievements, optimistic estimates show 8 million of poor living in Argentina, while pessimists talk of 12 million. The Indians of the North of the country are part of the poorest population. Photographer Gonzalo Vega portraited the northern province of Chaco for two years , and shows us the harsh living conditions of wichis and toba indians, who never enjoyed the soy agricultural boom that poured a fortune into the country since year 2004.
